And what is patriarchy? Do these categories affect only women, or can they shape men as well? Or people that live beyond the binary? Or, society itself? What is the relationship between gender and patriarchy? How do we understand power? Further, what IS feminism? Is it activism? Or is it theory? Is it about thought, ideas and concepts? Is it about causes and explanations? About effects and solutions? Is it social theory, or not? If yes, what kind of social theory is it? This lecture aims to debunk some myths about feminism. It aims to unpack some of the above questions; it aims to put forward languages and ways of thinking to analyse gender and patriarchy in our worlds. It aims to introduce feminism - as theory building, as knowledge production. **About the Speaker** Dr. Gita Chadha is professor at the School of Art & Sciences at Azim Premji University. In her teaching career of over three decades, she has taught at undergraduate colleges of Mumbai University and on the international programme of the University of London in Mumbai. Gita has been the Chairperson of the University Women’s Development Cell of the University of Mumbai.
