"description": "Please join us for the festive launch of The Digital Transparent (Routledge, 2027). In this book, author Jan Teurlings (University of Amsterdam) looks into what in the 21th century has rapidly become the principle contemporary means of dissemination content: the digital platform.\n\nThe book situates it within a much longer history of print, cinema and broadcast media to bring out what is genuinely new and what remains of these previous modes of dissemination. Through a critical engagement with transparency efforts found on platforms the book argues that the advent of the digital promised transparency, yet is ultimately incapable of fulfilling that promise because of the partiality, selectivity and interestedness of the various transparency devices involved.\n\nThe author will be joined by Emmanuel Alloa (Université de Fribourg) and Karin Van Es (Universiteit Utrecht) to hold a conversation on the main themes of book.",
