From the psychoactive rites of medieval demonologists and the ketamine mummification rituals of chaos magicians to the peyote ceremonies of the Native American Church, rave culture, and the use of entheogens in museums, on pilgrimage routes and in contemporary therapeutic settings, Julian explores the remarkable diversity of ways humans have woven psychedelics into ceremony.\n\nDiscover how ritual shapes psychedelic experience and why, across cultures and throughout history, people have sought to get higher together.\n\n[**Julian Vayne**](https://julianvayne.com/) is an occultist and psychonaut schooled in the Western Esoteric Tradition, a spiritual lineage rooted in ancient Egypt in which altered states of awareness play a pivotal role. Julian has taught at universities and published on psychedelics in the academic, alternative and popular press. He is a co-organizer of _Breaking Convention_, Europe’s largest psychedelic conference and a founding member of the Transform Drug Policy Foundation. Julian has been an advisor in licensed medical psychedelic trials, participated as a research subject, and facilitated hundreds of journeys over many decades in a variety of contexts.\n\n![](https://r2.dandelion.events/2026/07/27/16/15/47/28510d7b-3000-459d-bf61-a594602771d5/julian vayne headshot.jpg)\n_Julian Vayne _\n\nThis talk is hosted by [Psychedelic Press](https://psychedelicpress.co.uk/pages/about-us).
