And, whilst we have not inherited the ceremonies and rituals which of course would have accompanied such a time of sacred and abundant harvest, we will explore together what it might mean to unearth these ceremonies, to honour and give thanks for this greatest of gifts: life.\n\nFollowing the trails of deer through the woods is not always easy - and so it is with following the subtle tracks and signs leading us back to the restoration of ancestral lifeways.\n\nAs humans, we have evolved closely with the hooved ones - in climates across the world, they have walked beside us, fed and clothed us… in many regards, they have made us.\n\n![](https://r2.dandelion.events/2025/06/12/11/48/51/4b8c55e9-d08e-4c91-9ef3-28b67574bf38/Screen Shot 2025-01-09 at 17.04.37.png)\n\n#### **Throughout our time together we will be exploring these questions** :\n\n \n\nHow do we honour this death? What does it look like to honour these animal kin?\n\nHow do we stay present and allow ourselves to feel all that arises in the face of death, particularly one we have a part in causing?\n\nWhat would it be like to remem\n\nber our trails as humans on this land?\n\nHow do we become worthy of asking someone to die so we may live?\n\nHow can we be in reciprocity?\n\nWhat culture can emerge when we honour an animal’s life and make beauty from their body?\n\n \n\n![](https://r2.dandelion.events/2025/06/12/11/50/51/1920a426-e557-4275-881b-b59fb0ef5eb0/DSC03683.jpg)\n\n#### **During our explorations, we will make camp on the edge of ancient Dartmoor woodland, on land being ecologically tended and re-forested.**\n\n#### **The purpose within this offering, and the land regeneration project here, is to understand how we as humans can assist in restoring the land to health, whilst simultaneously tending to our own hearts and bodies.**\n\n#### **To explore our place as humans in the web of life, weaving ourselves in with joy, respect, reciprocity, humility, and gratitude. A deep remembering, through bloodied hands, full bellies and aching hearts.**\n\n#### **We intend to gather together in community as we collectively grieve and celebrate this most ancient of gifts. As we remember our place as hunters, as beauty weavers, gratitude gatherers and feast makers.**\n\n \n\n#### **Over the course of the six days and nights, we will explore:**\n\n**Butchery and cooking**\n\nProcessing a whole deer - from carcass to plate.\n\nJerky making\n\nEarth oven pit roast\n\nFat rendering\n\n**Bone, Antler & Hoof craft**\n\nTools\n\nJewellery and buttons\n\n**Hide tanning**\n\nLeg skin pouches\n\nTanning a collective hair-on bark tanned deer skin\n\n**Tracking & Trailing**\n\nLearn how to identify the tracks and signs left by deer\n\nExplore deer behaviour to better understand where they might be in a landscape\n\nExperience finding and following a fresh deer trail with the hope of seeing the animal\n\n**Ceremony**\n\nCo-creating ceremony with the land to honour death and life and remember what we ought not to forget.\n\n… Reaching a place where we can’t help but be grateful, where we cannot help but know ourselves to be _fite fuaite_, interwoven, with the vitality of the hooved ones, and the health of the land with whom we thrive.\n\n## Your Deer Guides\n\n \n\n![](https://r2.dandelion.events/2025/06/12/11/52/49/6c311e85-d6d1-404f-8e13-4f353b167118/DSC04043.jpg)\n\n \n\n#### _This is a collaboration between Lucy O'Hagan of_ [_Wild Awake Ireland_](https://www.wildawake.ie/omosois) _and Jessie Watson Brown of_ [_Rekindled Hearth._](http://www.rekindledhearth.co.uk)\n\nSeparately, we have been following deer and their trails and working with their bodies in life, death and ceremony for over ten years.\n\nTogether, we dreamed the offering of ‘Ómós Ois’ whilst following reindeer tracks through the snow one winter in Norway in 2021.\n\nSince then, we have been collectively co-weaving this ceremony in our homes of Donegal and Dartmoor.\n\n \n\nWe are offering this work now as two mothers of little ones - Lucy's will be 1 year and Jessie's 9 months. Our little fawns will join us for this camp, with their fathers. We invite you into the real, unpolished texture of a multi-generational community where craft and ceremony sit side by side with nappy changes and feeding. Our rythmns will be in part determined by nap times and flow with potential interruptions of care and tending. \n\nThis is a choice for cultural regeneration and repair to be present in the space in the form of intergenerational caretaking and shared responsibility. And we invite you to join us as we practice in real time the world we wish to bring into being.\n\n![](https://r2.dandelion.events/2025/06/12/11/55/24/b04a5c53-9dc3-4591-8191-9b97ffc4ea75/DSC04471.jpg)\n\n \n\n**What’s included?**\n\nSimple breakfasts and deer-full dinners on all days\n\n## Camp kitchen, toilet, sheltered, covered fireplace, Sauna\n\nDrinking water & hot drinks\n\nAll materials for class\n\nTuition from practitioners who have been honing & teaching these crafts for over 10 years\n\nFireside deer mythology with a storyteller\n\nMeeting with local hunter and land tender to explore the role of the deer in local ecology\n\n\n\n**What’s not included?**\n\nTransport to and from the venue (though we can facilitate lift shares)\n\nLunch and snacks\n\nCamping equipment\n\n\n\n \n\n**Who’s it for?**\n\nAnyone and everyone with a love for the wild, a desire to explore the above questions and and a wish to connect in a nature-based community. No experience necessary. We are welcoming adults and families on this course. I feel deeply humbled by what I've experienced and the sensitive guidance of Jessie and Lucy. When I came home I felt I had been in some far-off mythical land, a lived fairy-tale that revealed so much, seen and unseen, conscious and unconscious\".\n\nParicipant, 2025\n\n\"It’s hard to put into words how deeply considered, how beautiful, and how surprisingly moving this ceremony was. If you have an inquisitive mind and you’re concerned with the modern world’s sad and destructive relationship with land, food, heritage and health, then you will find this ceremony uplifting, affirming and powerfully relevant.\".\n\nParticipant, 2025\n\n\"A transformative experience. Being taught the skills of our ancestors, creating community, and learning how we can be a more valuable ally to our native land will forever change my life. It is an initiation into being more resilient, wise, and collaborative with the natural world around you. I have been integrating the skills learned slowly but surely into my daily life. I also made friends that I will cherish forever. We are kin, after sharing such a deep and meaningful experience. Lucy and Jessie hold space with such integrity and prowess. I am so grateful.
